Good songs for beginners to play

Post by Mark Sayas »

What would be some good songs with maybe 2 or 3 chords a beginner would play that have some good twang to them. Want to play along with something not to complicated

For me WAY back when that song was Honkey Tonk Angels ... Not complicated with a myriad of changes and fancy chords, just straight ahead Country. Songs like this, (at least for me) helped me to familiarize myself to what was going on with the guitar, it's tuning and how to approach things.

Good luck in your journey, and reach out if you need help, as many folks here are willing to help.

The first song that came to mind when I saw this was Merle Haggard's Swinging Doors. The chord progression is standard, 3 chords, it has plenty of actual steel in it to get excited about and is mid-tempo.

Two Bob Wills Texas Swing two-chord standards come to mind:

1) Take Me Back To Tulsa, I & V.
2) Bottle Baby Boogie, I & II.

Also there's the old Hank Cochran standard A-11, I & IV.

Hard to top the "twang factor" in this "Play along with Mike" version:
